UPDATE 12/8/08
THE SEARCH
(today's news article)
Today folks are doing an organized search for Cheryl exactly one week from her disappearance and this is my prayer:

Dear heavenly Father, thank You Lord for your faithfulness and loving kindness which you pour down on us daily. Thank you for Your Son Who gave His life so that we can be forgiven and have new life. Thank Your Holy Spirit for teaching, comforting and guiding us. Thank You for hearing and answering prayer and today, Lord, we need a MIRACLE and miracles are what you do best! Lord Jesus we ask for divine intervention to find Cheryl. Will you please remove anything that is hindering us from finding her, Lord Jesus? We pray she is alive and hope for to her healthy and safe. But if You took her home with you, may we please find her body? This is so painful but we put our complete trust in You, Lord God. Comfort and encourage her sons. May fear, worry, doubt and unbelief go and may faith rise up I pray. Forgive me for my sins and change me to be more like you, Jesus. May the truth be revealed, may the lies be exposed, may the church wakeup and repent from sin, may souls be saved and may you, Lord Jesus Christ, be glorified we pray. Thank You Lord. Amen.

James 5:16
Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

INVESTIGATION
It puzzles me why the Thagard website is not putting out any news about Cheryl, their employee. While searching for more info, I found her listed as a new hire "Cheryl Dunlap, Registered Nurse" page 9 of the Fall 2007 Florida State University Student Affairs newsletter.

But what caught my eye was this story in the same newsletter on page 7:

"The Albert J. and Judith A. Student Success Center
A new building now under construction will serve as the home of two offices which exist to help students fi nd success and fulfillment in life after graduation: the Career Center and the Center for Leadership & Civic Education. Albert J. and Judith A. Dunlap, who are among FSU’s most generous benefactors, contributed $5 million toward construction, of the $13.8 million building.
Mr. and Mrs. Dunlap, FSU Board of Trustees member Susie Busch-Transou,
President T.K. Wetherell, Associate Vice President Eric Weldy, department
directors - Jeff Garis, Laura Osteen, and Bill Moeller, and student representative
Sara Sokola collectively symbolized the official start of construction at the
official ground breaking in July. This center will help students search for employment, promote guidance in community involvement and mentors to teach them how to become
tomorrow’s leaders. The 50,000-square-foot building, adjacent to the
Student Life Building, will include classrooms and meeting rooms.
The new center is scheduled to open in Fall 2008."

And this paragraph page 6:
"Staff will remain in current locations through next summer until the
new Dunlap Student Success Center opens on the corner of
Woodward Avenue and Traditions Way. The Dunlap Student
Success Center will also house the Career Center.
To find out more about the programs offered by
the Center for Leadership and Civic Education visit
http://thecenter.fsu.edu/."

QUESTION 1: Is Cheryl Dunlap related to Albert and Judith Dunlap?

QUESTION 2: According to this article, Judith and Albert Dunlap have no children, but is there another connection?

QUESTION 3: Is Dunlap Cheryl's maiden or married name and who are her parents?

OBSERVATION 1: Albert Dunlap (net worth
$100 million) is a former CEO of Sunbeam, where he was called "Chainsaw Al" because he would fire thousands of employees while at Sunbeam. In 2002, Dunlap paid $500,000 to the SEC on charges that he cooked the books at the company. Since then, Dunlap has been under a lifetime ban from top jobs at public companies. (source)

Another Update
Message board posts say there is no connection between Albert Dunlap and Cheryl Dunlap. Also they say Dunlap is her married name and Hodges is maiden name.

Someone set up a myspace website for Cheryl.

Wakulla County Captain Randall Taylor briefs volunteers

Residents, friends help search for missing Crawfordville woman

By Nic Corbett
DEMOCRAT STAFF WRITER

About 180 people walked in a line Saturday as they combed the dense woods west of Highway 319, where Cheryl Hodges Dunlap's car was found Monday.

The 46-year-old Crawfordville women has been missing since Saturday.

The volunteer search party didn't turn up anything, but to many, that was good news.

"Most everybody is very optimistic," said Judy Brown, 47, whose daughter is dating Dunlap's 23-year-old son. "We all feel like she's still with us, and we're going to find her."

Along with Dunlap's friends, Wakulla County commissioners, a search and rescue team, firefighters, presidents of banks and a clerk of court helped search for Dunlap, Brown said.

Wakulla County Sheriff's Office Capt. Randall Taylor said the search party helped clear the area of any evidence for investigators.

"I cannot sing the praise loud enough for them," he said.

Clayton Rodgers, 72, joined the search with his 32-year-old grandson, Brandon Strickland. Rodgers' children grew up with Dunlap in Crawfordville. They were neighbors.

"It hit close to home for me," he said. "I just wanted to go out there and see if I could help find her."

Friends first became suspicious when Dunlap didn't show up to teach the fourth- and fifth-graders at Sunday School at the River of Life Church in Crawfordville.

"Cheryl was passionate for the Lord," said her friend Lori White, 53, a pastor at the church. "She and I prayed Monday nights, along with a few people at the church."

Anyone with information is asked to call the Leon County Sheriff's Office at 922-3300 or Crime Stoppers at 574-TIPS.

NEWS ARTICLE
Missing woman had blow-out on her car

By ANNE SPENCER
Jackson County Floridan
December 10, 2007

A friend of the Wakullla County nurse who has been missing since the weekend, says that police have determined the flat tire on the woman's car was the result of a blow-out.
Last week a friend said it didn't appear the tire was blown.

Missing is Cheryl Dunlap, 46, who works at the Florida State University Student Health Center in Tallahassee and lives alone in Crawfordville to the south.

Dunlap formerly worked at Campbellton-Graceville Hospital in northwestern Jackson County and lived in Fadette, Ala., near the Florida line.

Tanya Land of Crawfordville identifies herself as having known Dunlap for about a dozen years and says that she was in the group that found Dunlap's car on Monday.

Dunlap's friends had gotten worried after she didn't show up for work on Monday and had been absent from her church duty on Sunday without giving notice.

Friends said that because Dunlap taught a youth Sunday School class and was so dependable, she would never have not let someone know.

They notified the Wakulla County Sheriff's Office and began their own local search. After Dunlap's car was found Monday abandoned in Leon County, Wakulla County turned the case over to the Leon County Sheriff's Office.

"My daughter and (a girlfriend of one of Dunlap's sons) remembered seeing a car on the highway (U.S. 319)," Land said. "And we thought it might be hers, so we went looking and found it about 20 feet off the road."

Land said the car was facing south toward Crawfordville.

"It was obvious she had a blown tire; the sheriff's department confirmed that," said Land.

She said Dunlap's purse was under the seat when they found the car, but that was not unusual for the woman to leave it there.

She said Dunlap often left her purse in the car when she went to run an errand, and could have left it there while she sought help for the disabled car.

"Her purse was under the seat," said Land, "but it wasn't something she would carry with her."

The car was found locked, she said.

Land also said it had been confirmed that Dunlap was at the Wakulla County Public Library on Saturday.

Another of Dunlap's friends, Judy Brown, has said that her daughter spoke with Dunlap Saturday morning, and Dunlap had said she was going to FSU's Strozier Library to download some photos on that day.

According to Brown, her daughter dates Dunlap's son Jake and often talked to Dunlap because Jake was away in Army boot camp.

Land said she knew nothing about Strozier, but that Dunlap usually went to the local library to download pictures.

"She's like a second mother to my kids," Land said. She said she didn't want to speculate on what might have happened to her friend because she didn't want to spook anyone.

"We're just trying to be real careful about what we say," Land said.

When the word first came out about Dunlap, Brown wasn't sure of the woman's immediate family. Land says Dunlap's mother is living and that Dunlap has siblings in the Southeast.

Dunlap also has a son, Michael, who lives with his wife and children in Tallahassee. Her son Jake has come home, according to Land.

Brown said on Monday that she knows nothing more about the case than she did on Thursday when she spoke to the Floridan, "absolutely nothing."

Detective Brice Google of the Leon County Sheriff's Office said he had nothing new on Monday that he could release. He said a press conference will be held today.

Dunlap is described as 5 foot 4 inches tall with a petite build, brown hair and brown eyes. Her car is a 2006 white Toyota Camry.

Friends at Campbellton-Graceville Hospital held a candlelight vigil for Dunlap on Thursday.

Police are determining who heard from Dunlap last and what was said and if her cell phone has been used, and are questioning those who know her and processing the car.

According to Leon County Sgt. Rob Reisinger, two air searches and a ground search had been made as of Thursday.

The highway where Dunlap's car was found runs between Tallahassee and Panacea on the Gulf Coast, by way of Crawfordville.

U.S. 319 borders the Apalachicola National Forest.

Brown didn't know if Dunlap actually went to Tallahassee.

Friends began putting flyers and posters up by mid-week. They say Dunlap is a careful person used to being on her own, but fear what may have occurred.

Brown believes Dunlap's cell phone might have died.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the Leon County Sheriff's Office, (850) 922-3300; the Wakulla County Sheriff's Office, (850) 926-0800; or CrimeStoppers, 1-88-876-TIPS.

When calling CrimeStoppers, the name of the caller is not required.

PRAYER
Dear heavenly Father, we are so broken over the disappearance of Cheryl and ask that You please bring her home in Jesus name we pray - amen.
